ASOIAF

ASOIAF

This site aims to improve your understanding of the complex and incredibly well written character interactions within the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire", written by George R. R. Martin. The major houses from the series are shown below, each with a colour that will be used in the character network.

The visualisation makes use of the D3.js library to create a network of character interactions and family/friend relationships throughout the book series. This information is based on the ASOIAF Dataset which is available at this address. The purpose is to improve your understanding of the complexities of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” story line and hopefully educate you on some lesser known characters, and their importance in the story.

1. Choose a book from the dropdown menu to view the network of that book.
2. Hover over a node on the graph to see a summary of that character and their relationships.
3. Thicker connections between nodes represent a more significant connection between characters.
4. The bigger the node, the more important that character is during the book chosen.
5. Sort the characters by their house name by interacting with the button provided.
6. Search for specific characters & house names using the search bar provided.
7. Quickly filter by house name by interacting with the name blocks on the legend.
8. See character data by clicking on one of the nodes, a tabular navbar will appear.
9. Edit character data by clicking on the edit button of the tabular navbar.
10. Get a closer look by zooming in, use your mouse wheel or double click.
